For the proper growth of plants in a greenhouse, the humidity levels should fall in the ideal range. Too much humidity can slow down the growth of your plants in addition to triggering the growth of mold and mildew. In most cases, a fungal infection may start and damage the leaves, stems, and roots of your plants. In this article, we are going to know about how humidity affects plants in a greenhouse and how you can control the humidity level. Read on to find out more.

Three elements that affect RH levels

Basically, the humidity level inside a greenhouse depends on three elements: Temperature, ventilation, and water management. These elements provide a convenient method to control the humidity level for the plants. Let’s find out more about each of them.

1. Temperature

The temperature has a direct link with the relative humidity. When moisture evaporates, it increases the humidity level around the plants. If you find a way to control the ambient temperature, the RH level can also be controlled.

2. Ventilation

Another way to control the ambient humidity is to find a way to have proper air circulation in the house. Without adequate ventilation, the RH levels will keep on rising. This will curb the plant growth. An easy way to have proper ventilation in the greenhouse is to set up air movers.

3. Water Management

If you water your plants too much, it will boost the growth of mold and fungus. Once spread, the fungus will continue to kill your plants one by one. Therefore, it is better to have an automatic irrigation system inside the greenhouse. These systems are expensive to buy and install, but they will save you thousands of dollars with time.

Water should not sit around the stems of your plants for too long. Therefore, it is better to water your plants in the morning so that the water could evaporate by evening. Excessive watering can make it difficult for your plants’ roots to breathe. Ideally, the soil around your plants should absorb all the water within 30 minutes.

Install a portable Dehumidifier in your greenhouse

Although traditional methods can be used to control relative humidity, they don’t provide the desired results. Today, greenhouse managers install special dehumidifier devices. They are an ideal solution for proper ventilation and humidification in an artificial environment for plants.

Long story short, you can install air movers and dehumidifiers if you want to manage your greenhouse in the best way possible.
